My Happy Birthday

So today was my birthday. My 3rd birthday since getting sober. That is now three birthdays that I can remember and have no remorse over...

Thank YOU God!

I spent the day quietly with my significant other who happened to have the day off too. We do not live together or in the same town so it is nice when we have a day off together. She took me out for breakfast and we had a nice relaxing afternoon. She made me the most awesome cake too. She works in the bakery of a local store.

Tonight she had a speaking commitment to keep and I went along. She had asked me if I wanted to speak with her and I had agreed. It turned out they had enough people show up for the commitment that I was not needed to speak. She told me she felt bad that I went and was not able to speak. I told her I needed a meeting and that it wasn't all about me. I got what I needed and didn't have to say a word.

Today I am so grateful to be another year older, maybe even a little wiser too. I stopped numerous times today to simply thank God for my sobriety and the ability to celebrate another anniversary of my birth. Both are very much a miracle considering I never thought I would survive beyond age 30 and surely never imagined getting or being sober.

I may not be where I want to be or who I am supposed to be today but I thank God I am not where or who I used to be.
